Holistic Massage
Massage is one of the oldest and simplest forms of medical care. Swedish ⁄ holistic massage was developed in the 19th century by a Swedish doctor, poet, and educator named Per Henrik Ling. His system was based on a study of gymnastics and physiology, and on techniques borrowed from China, Egypt, Greece, and Rome.
Holistic massage today is a treatment of the body as a whole (head to toe). It is first and foremost a therapeutic massage promoting a sense of general well being. Stress is a major part of everyday life and leads to a large amount of illness. Holistic massage is a form of prevention.
Medically it boosts the immune system, increases blood circulation, aids digestion and improves skin tone. Therapeutic massage cannot improve the strength of muscle, but research has shown it can stimulate inactive muscle and speed up muscle recovery.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is used for chronic muscle tension, focusing on more specific areas of the body. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. A deep–tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, releases toxins from muscles and gets blood and oxygen circulating properly. The purpose is to “unstick” the fibres of a muscle while releasing deeply held patterns of tension. It also removes toxins, while relaxing and soothing the muscle. It is both corrective and therapeutic.
It can cause a little muscle soreness but this is normal as painful adhesions are being mechanically loosened. It uses some of the deeper holistic massage strokes but generally slower strokes and direct deep pressure or friction is used.
Indian head massage
Indian head massage is based on the Ayurvedic system of healing which has been practiced in India for over a thousand years. It provides Indian families with relaxation and healing on a daily basis, as well as playing a part in rituals such as weddings and births, not to mention everyday events like a trip to the barber.
This is a fully clothed treatment, which uses a range of different movements including the application of deep kneading and compression movements over the neck, shoulder and scalp areas. In addition, pressure points on the face will also be gently stimulated and stroked.
Indian head massage helps increase joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders, improves blood circulation and lymphatic flow, frees knots of muscular tension, relaxes connective tissue, and aids in the elimination of accumulated toxins and waste products. It is particularly good for reducing the effects of stress and tension.
Seated Chair Massage
This is a massage directed towards those in the workplace, who are unable to come for a full hour massage. It is a 15 – 20 minute massage with no oil and there is no need to disrobe.
One of the main contributors to our everyday stress is our workplace. 70% of workers surveyed by a national survey stated that their job is very stressful. A chair massage promotes better circulation and muscle stimulation. This helps to prevent work related disorders such as Repetitive strain injury. A more relaxed employee is also a more productive employee.
